Creative Memories to Restructure Debt with Chapter 11

The Antioch Company, parent company of Creative Memories, a leader in the memory celebration industry for more than 20 years, announced today that it has reached an agreement with its lenders to restructure its debt.

To facilitate this agreement, The Antioch Company and six of its subsidiaries today filed voluntary petitions for Chapter 11 protection with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Ohio. The Antioch Company has elected to seek bankruptcy protection in order to restructure its debt while continuing to maintain normal business operations without interruption. The debt restructuring is embodied in the prepackaged plan of reorganization also filed today. Under the plan, which has the full support of the Company's lenders, the process is expected to be completed by the end of this calendar year.

"After completing a comprehensive strategic review of the business, The Antioch Company, with the guidance of industry experts and turnaround specialists, determined that a pre-packaged filing was in the best interest of the future of Creative Memories," said Asha Morgan Moran, global president of Creative Memories. "We are confident that the restructuring will provide strong opportunities for the company's consultants, employees, and customers.

"This process demonstrates our commitment to the future of Creative Memories," Morgan Moran said. "We will ensure that product development remains a top priority so that the company and our 55,000-plus global sales consultants will continue to benefit from our respected position in the traditional scrapbooking industry. At the same time, new product development will assist us in expanding our role into the digital market."

"The financial restructuring of The Antioch Company will allow Creative Memories to pursue its mission of preserving the past, enriching the present, and inspiring hope for the future," added Creative Memories Co-Founder Rhonda Anderson. "We are focused on our bright future as we further expand our offerings into digital scrapbooking and other innovative memory celebration options while continuing to serve our traditional scrapbook market."

The company does not anticipate any reduction in employee headcount or changes in operating facility locations and the company anticipates continuing day-to-day operations. In addition, The Antioch Company announced that it has filed a motion for authority to enter into a credit agreement with its lending group, which will provide up to $4 million in additional liquidity for restructuring and future investments.

As a leader in the memory celebration industry for more than 21 years, Creative Memories specializes in selling premium-quality, photo-safe albums, scrapbooking materials, digital photo books, and photo organization software. Based in St. Cloud, Minn., Creative Memories markets its products at in-home get-togethers through more than 55,000 independent global sales consultants in eight countries around the world.

Scrap Pink Crop SUCCESS !!

I am so happy to tell everyone that we raised $500 at our Scrap Pink Crop! I think that is a huge success considering how small our group is! Thank you to everyone who helped to make the weekend such a huge success.

November Project

Karen will be teaching the Saturday class in November. Please let us know as soon as you can if you want to make it so the supplied can be ordered.
The project is really fun to make and quite unique. There are two clipboards that we alter that hold large altered manilla envelopes for school age children to put their special papers in that they want to keep. These photos do not do this project justice!

Chipboard Albums for Scrap Pink donations

We will have blank chipboard albums available at the Scrap Pink Crop for a $4 donation per album that will go to Scrap Pink.
Daria has donated the chipboard and I will donate my time to cut them so we aren't out any money for these, all $4 will go to Scrap Pink.
The photos are just samples of what you can make with this Castle mini album that folds out. Double click on the slide show to see more detailed photos.
You will need to bring your own patterned paper and embellishments to decorate the albums.
If you want me to cut your paper, please bring it to the Cafe this Friday night so I have time to get it all cut before the ScrapPink Crop. Each album needs a minimum of4 sheets of different 12"x12" patterned paper but it looks best if you use 8 different patterns/and or cardstock so the front and back of each side is different.
These albums would also be nice as Disney albums in red, yellow, black and white. And I really think a Princess Castle album in Pink and Purple would be so cute. And did someone mention Pirates and Princesses in black and pink! LOL!
Please let me know asap how many of the castle albums you will want so I can get them cut.

Scrap Pink Crop September 20th

Scrapbooks etc. is partnering with Susan G. Komen for the Cure® to hold a “Scrap Pink” fundraising campaign in September 2008 at independent retail stores across North America. Even though Inspiration Cafe is not a retail store, we are still participating.

Your crop fee of $10 plus all the money we collect at the crop from our contests and auction will support Komen for the Cure’s promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all, and energizing science to find the cures.

Our Scrap Pink Crop at the Cafe will be held during our usual weekend crop times on September 19 from 6pm-midnight and Saturday September 20 from 10am-midnight. We can leave our scrapping supplies Friday night and resume the fun on Saturday.

Plan on bringing a PINK layout to enter in the layout contest and win a cool prize. The layout that raises the most money will be the winner. All money will be donated to the fundraiser.

There will also be a prize for the PINKEST outfit. This is going to be fun, I can't wait to see all the pink. I will be very happy as pink is my favorite color.

I will be updating this entry as all the plans are put in place. Check back later on in the week.

Please let me know asap if you plan to attend. Our group is growing every week and we may need to bring a few more tables.

Most of our local scrapbook stores are having their Scrap Pink crop on Saturday September 27.
So by us having our crop the weekend before, that means we can also attend the Scrap Pink crops at our local scrapbook stores. Check out the blogs listed on here for more information on their crops.

Scrapbooking With Love is Closing

This was on Scrapbooking With Love's blog.

"After 5 wonderful years in the Scrapbooking World we ( Scrapbooking With Love ) have decided to close our doors. It marks a chapter closing but I'm very excited about the next chapter. My husband & I have decided to move to MN. I know that doesn't come as a big surprise to anyone, since we go up there so often. But it's taken years of pleading for him to finally agree to go. I've been wanting to go back to MN ever since we move down her in 1986. So, with the lease ending for the store we finally got that added push.
We want to thank everyone for their support & friendship over the years! I'm going to miss seeing everyone's projects/layouts and sharing mine with with you.
Starting tomorrow everything in the store is
50% off (August 27 - August 31)Store Hours:Tuesday thru Thursday 10am-6pmFriday 10am-7pmSaturday 10am-5pmSunday 12pm-4pm" Marie

Our First Official All Day Saturday Crop !!

I can't imagine having more fun cropping than what we did today! I am finding that each time we all get together it is just getting better and better. I have laughed so much today that my face and ribs are sore! Wonderful friendships and memories are being made.

I am pretty sure everyone had a great time making the "easy" project today LOL!
I promise that next month's project will be an easy one! LOL, that is what I said about this one!
I want to see some of those "easy to make" paper flowers on some future layouts. I just love them.

Everyone made their altered canvas with colors to match their home decor. I love how beautiful they all look with different colors and the special touches that each of you did.

True works of art and the heart!

Altered Canvas Calendar Saturday July 19

I saw this idea on the Paper Crazy blog and thought it would be fun to make. I changed it quite a bit though from their original idea, you can see the original idea at http://www.thepapermillstore.com/papercrazy/?page_id=91&album=1&photo=586

No, yours doesn't have to be pink!! This is just a sample I made for my own scrapbook room.

Each month we will have an inspiration project available at the all day Saturday crops for those who are interested in making a fun paper craft. This month we will be making altered canvas calendars and the cost is $10, profits will go to Inspiration Cafe.

Since home decor is all so different, I decided to not make kits for this project. Instead, I will have the canvas punched and prepared for the silver clasp to be attached and ready for you to paint with your own favorite color acrylic paint to match your home decor.

I will show you how to make the paper flowers out of your patterned paper and have three alphabets fonts and chipboard available to cut the chipboard letters to spell what you want on your calender. I will have tiny beads for your flower centers to match your color and the corrugated cardboard. I will also have sandpaper, Scrappy Glue, Pop dots, thin white ribbon and Stickles available for you to use.

What you will need to bring:

  • acrylic paint of your color choice and sponge brush
  • patterned paper, 3 or 4 patterns to match your home decor and paint ( 1 sheet of each pattern)
  • cardstock, 2 colors to match your patterned paper
  • dry adhesive to attach the paper to the canvas, I used Herma dotto and glue dots
  • a pencil to attach to the board

I have 10 canvases available, let me know if you plan to make this project so I know if I need to bring more supplies. See ya Saturday! Vickie K

EDITED: Sold out! But, if you still want to make the project, I can prepare more canvases. Just let me know.

July 4th Crop

I think everyone who attended Inspiration Cafe's first 4th of July crop will agree, we had a blast! It was great having three new Inspiration Cafe croppers. I hope we continue to grow as a group and keep our room filled to the max every Friday night and the third Saturday each month.

We had amazing food all day long, hourly drawings for some really nice scrapbook goodies, lots of laughter and at sometime during the 14 hour celebration we made time to scrapbook and work on our paper craft passions.

Judy was the raffle winner of the 2 page pre-made tear bear 4th of July scrapbook layout donated by me, Vickie K.

I am really thankful to be a part of such a wonderful group of people. Vickie K

KEETON'S ONLINE

Ok, am I the last to know or has Keeton's always been online and had the Artist's Corner?

I was so excited today, I received an email from Keeton's with a 40% off coupon! I remember signing up for emails ages ago (it seems) but never received an email until today. If you didn't get the email, go to the Artist's Corner and sign up to get on their email list.

I have added Keeton's to our list of online stores here on the blog. You can't order online but you can look at their catalog online. Check out their website, if you look at the Artist's Corner there is a list of upcoming classes and Joey Long is teaching a Japanese Stab Bound Journal July 19 from 9am to noon. There is a photo and it looks really awesome!!

For those of you who are just cruising blogs and don't know about Keeton's in Bradenton, Florida, they have a beautiful selection of rubber stamps and several aisles of stamping and scrapbooking products and a nice selection of idea books. If you are into stamping and altering items go check them out. I have purchased quite a few items there that most scrapbook stores don't carry, such as my Ranger Melting Pot for altering chipboard letters with UTEE and all the accessories, ATC blank cards, alcohol inks and of course, all of my daughter's art supplies. And the last time I was there, they carried all the Somerset magazines huhm...I need to find a link to Somerset. Found it and will add it to our scrapbook magazine list.
